Report on the CanCham Corner of September 4th, 2025

Album / Video clip.

Back to school, back to networking! We kicked off the new business season with a very informal CanCham Corner on September 4th, 2025 at the Wellton Riga Hotel & SPA Tapas Tapas Restaurant. A great atmosphere with good food made for pleasant socializing surroundings emphasizing CanCham’s focus on creating relationships.

We were particularly pleased to welcome three members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Major (OF-3) Randy Aube, Officer Commanding Contracts Management Cell (CMC), National Support Element, Canadian Armed Forces replaces Major Patrick Dornan who presented in CanCham’s Procurement Seminar in February. Major Aube will be in Latvia for the next three years. One of his main objectives is to develop working relationships with Latvian equipment and service suppliers to support the work of Task Force Latvia, the National Command Element that ensures the success of the Canadian contribution to NATO in Latvia. This involves investing in military infrastructure and coordinating various aspects needed to support this effort through local procurement. His team members have their hands full managing an increasing number of contracts with local suppliers. The CanCham’s role is to provide whatever assistance we can through our network in Latvia. Captain Tanvir Suri and his associate Emir Islamagic have been coordinating CanCham and TFL activities. Sgt. Joshua Jenkins was introduced as Emir Islamagic’s replacement as Emir Islamagic has rotated back to Canada. We welcomed the new CAF members to Latvia and will continue to support their efforts in helping defend Latvia.

Ed Kalvins welcomed all participants introducing Board members and Canadians, and of course, CAF representatives, and introduced those present of CanChams recently establishedStrategic Partnership” initiative, pointing out that there will be a Strategic partnership meeting for members on September 22nd via ZOOM, with colleagues joining from Canada. We are also preparing for the Canadian Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, October 13th and another Procurement Seminar on October 27th. Please check https://cancham.lv/ for details and updates to the event schedule.

We are all looking forward to an active year, and invite those who would like to share in the Canadian experience to be a part of it.
