A team that works and plays together gets results together. That should be the theme for 2020 as the CanCham tried something new at its CanCham Corner on Thursday, January 16th,  2020 at 18.30 at Singh’s Restaurant, Ìertrûdes iela 32, Rîga. http://www.singhs.lv/.

Various group members came together at 17.30 to discuss upcoming activities. The following were addressed:

1.   Members were reminded that they can place their advertisements in Face Book’s Group page called “CanCham Members and Good Friends” at https://www.facebook.com/groups/250007135140429/?source_id=1029488813780997. Members advertisements will be shared to the main CanCham FB site, as well as the CanCham web site if they qualify, and can be shared throughout FB.

2.   A system of advertising member products and services using our sell sheets was described using product exports as an example. Those members interesting in advertising their products and services should contact the appropriate Board members and Group Leaders.

3.   Una Brûna described the Health & Leisure Group’s Business After Hours initiative on February 6th. This is particularly appropriate for embassy personnel and those working in Latvia from abroad.

4.   Ed Kalvins provided details about the CanCham Focus on Trade, Business & Export Development on January 30th with Canada’s Senior Trade Commissioner – Michael Eyestone and Pierre-Olivier Savoie of Savoie Arbitration. See information at http://cancham.lv/events/cancham-focus-on-canada-trade-business--export-development-on-thursday-january-30th-at-1830-at-the-r?pp=. The event will also feature Canadian wine tasting.

Prior to the evening event will be a late lunch with Mr Eyestone, with attendance restricted to Board members, Group Leaders and Corporate members.

Then we turned to “fun and games” with a “Zole” tournament with the object of our members getting to know each other better. The big winners were Ingars Kalnieks (+61), Richard Hunter (+12), Gints Zalitis (+11), and participation honours going to Ed Kalvins (-13), Pçteris Kurms (-15) and Normunds Kupcis (-48).

The decision was to have these tournaments as a feature of the CanCham Corner in future, and to provide lessons to those who wish to learn how to play this popular Latvian card game.
