Ed Kalvins provided a summary of activities that the CanCham has undertaken to prepare CanCham’s members for CETA which included meeting on the following topics: “CETA – the EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement” – January, Financing Development - March, Creating Visibility – May, Development Opportunities and Business Environment in Riga - June.
Kârlis Eihenbaums, Latvian Ambassador designate to Canada and Marks Deitons, Latvian Embassy in Canada First Secretary designate responsible for promotion of business, trade and investment were introduced as the point of contact in Ottawa after they assume their responsibilities in August. Arvils Zeltiòð, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Head of the Foreign Economic Relations Promotion Department was introduced as the point of contact in Riga. Members introduced themselves and indicated what they hoped to achieve from contacts with Canada. This was so as to give our diplomats information as to requirements. Forum participants were invited to write to the Embassy to present their requirements.
The CanCham will be working with its members
to develop a uniform approach of communication with the Embassy in Canada. The
process has just begun.
