CanCham’s Focus on Trade with Canada with Dr. Brent McKenzie, Associate Professor at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada on Thursday, November 8th at 17.00 at Trompete
08.11.2018

Dear CanCham Members and Friends,

The Canadian Embassy in Latvia and the CanCham invites you to join in our Focus on Trade with Canada with a special guest, Dr. Brent McKenzie, Associate Professor at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

The University of Guelph (https://www.uoguelph.ca/about.html) is Canada’s premier agricultural university located a short distance from Toronto, which is to Canada what the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (Latvijas Lauksaimniecîbas universitâte in Jelgava) is to Latvia.

Dr. McKenzie is currently an Associate Professor (Tenured), Department of Marketing and Consumer
Studies, College of Business and Economics.
Courses taught include Marketing Strategy, International Marketing, Advanced Marketing, Dark Tourism (First Year Seminar), Marketing Management (MSc), Qualitative Research Methods (MSc), Theory of Management (PhD), Global Business Today (MBA – Distance Education) and .Readings Courses (Sports Marketing; Advanced Dark Tourism). He has particular interest and knowledge of conditions in the Baltic States and can relate to our efforts to seek strategic partners in Canada.

Also participating in the meeting will be Inese Valdheima, the Chairperson of O fonds (www.ofonds.lv) who is working with Dr. McKenzie and will introduce us to her project. Dr. McKenzie, along with one of his graduate students, has written a case study about how they have/are rebranding their organization, and they are hoping to benefit from contacts with Canadian firms relating to cancer education/prevention. This will serve as a good example of how we are creating strategic partnerships between Canada and Latvia.

This is the second working session in the form of a “roundtable” type discussion where the CanCham wishes to develop a plan to help its members develop business opportunities with Canada, and is a follow-up to our meeting of

Besides referring to the O fonds project, Dr. McKenzie will participate in our discussions in establishing strategic partnerships with Canadians.

The focus will again be on those interested in trade (exporting/importing products or services), or who are looking for strategic partners for business development purposes and/or financing with Canada. Those who can support the Trade Facilitation Group (such as logistics, promotion, business support and market entry specialists) should also participate. Others who are interested in this subject are most welcome.

The agenda will include:

  • introduction
  • Dr. McKenzie’s work with O fonds, and the Canadian market (Dr. McKenzie, Inese Valdheima)
  • a brief review of the recent Focus on Medical Services meeting
  • a brief introduction by each participant of what they have to offer, their requirements, the market they focus on, and their past experiences,
  • next steps

We thank the Canadian Embassy for sponsoring the event. Participation includes refreshments, coffee/tea. A cash bar will be available.

The meeting will start at 17.00 sharp. Please arrive a little earlier to register - registration from 16.30.
