Dear CanCham Members and Friends,

The CanCham invites you to a Focus on Canada: Trade, Business & Export Development event with Mr Michael Eyestone, Canadian Trade Commissioner, and Pierre-Olivier Savoie, the owner Savoie Arbitration.

We wish to explore ways in which Canadian businesses and CanCham can develop opportunities in this region and Canada. The event will also feature a Canadian wine tasting segment sponsored by the Canadian Embassy.

Please register here.

Mr Eyestone is the newly appointed Senior Canadian Trade Commissioner to the Baltics, and currently resides in Tallinn though he serves all three Baltic countries. Canada has not had a Trade Commissioner in the Baltics since 2002, hence we expect to see new initiatives from the Canadian Embassy in Latvia in support of the current Commercial Officer, Irena Cîrule. This event is to introduce Mr Eyestone to you and give him a chance to meet our members to share views on further development.

He will be discussing his vision of developing business opportunities for Canadians in this region and providing his view of where the CanCham fits.

Other issues that will be addressed include:

  • Canadian Embassy commercial objectives
  • the current status of CETA,
  • have there been any improvements in trade between Canada and Latvia and/or the Baltics because of CETA
  • upcoming plans of an economic/trade nature such as participation in trade shows and planned missions to or from Canada,
  • current Embassy personnel involved in commercial activities, and what they are responsible for.

Our new Corporate Contributing member, Mr Pierre-Olivier Savoie was involved in preparing CETA from the Canadian side, and will provide some insight of what was considered when negotiating CETA and how it all developed. Hopefully he will provide some guidance for how to work with Canadian counterparts.

Entrance charge includes refreshments (dinner not provided). Cash bar available.
