The Embassy of Canada to Latvia invites up to two (2) people from each CanCham member to the premiere of the Pauls Dombrovskis documentary ‘’More Than A Dance’’ on March 14 at 19.00 at Forum Cinemas (13. janvāra iela 8, Rīga).

"More Than A Dance" tells the story of the Toronto Latvian folk-dance group "Daugaviņa" and its journey to the 2023 Latvian Song and Dance Festival. The film focuses on Selga Apse, the long-time leader of the dance group, who continues to keep the Latvian language and traditions alive in the multicultural environment of Toronto through her professional activities and passion. The film is enriched by unseen, private-archive footage from the 1960s, which gives an authentic insight into the efforts of Canadian Latvians to preserve their identity in a foreign land. The premiere will feature appearances by Selga Apse, head of "Daugaviņa" and Pauls Dombrovskis - the director of the film, as well as a performance by the folk-dance ensemble "Teiksma" under the direction of choreographer Jānis Ēglis.
