It’s all about building relationships, and so, CanCham’s members and friends came together for CanCham’s Canada Day BBQ at the Sonada Hotel Gardens on Tuesday, July 1st, marking Canada’s 158th birthday 2025 and CanCham’s 25th anniversary year.
CanCham’s Canada Day BBQ was very different this year, thanks to our main sponsors, RigaApartment.com and Cleaning Riga who made an extra effort to make this occasion special. They provided: catering by our member, the TINTO wine restaurant, a DJ, Paul Yu, to provide music, a large marquee to shelter from rain (just in case) and several fun games including novus, Jenga XXL, table football and darts. Particular compliments to the TINTO chef for adding a delicious touch to the BBQ offerings. Special gifts were provided by the Embassy of Canada in Latvia (Canadian wine) and the CanCham (maple syrup). A big THANK YOU goes to these sponsors for making this event extra special.
CanCham’s Chairman, Ed Kalvins, welcomed those present, and Nicolas Lepage, Senior Trade Commissioner for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia for the Embassy of Canada also addressed today’s guests. A special greeting was provided by Zanda Kalniòa-Lukaðevica (Deputy Speaker of the Saeima). Mark Watson, CanCham’s Communications Director and RigaApartment.com representative welcomed our guests to the hotel and outlined some of the planned activities.
Warm discussions continued during the event despite the somewhat chilly weather. When participants went home, the “luck of the draw” determined what Canadian souvenir they took home with them, either Canadian wine or maple syrup.
And so, 158 years of Canada is behind us, and we look forward to the next year, and CanCham continues to enjoy its 25th anniversary year. So ends the first half of 2025. As we go for a summer break, we wish all members and friends a pleasant and safe summer. See you in the fall.
