The “Rail Baltica – project of the century” event took place on Monday, April 10th, 2017 at the Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & SPA Hotel, Elizabetes 55, www.radissonblu.com/en/latvijahotel-riga

Ed Kalvins began the evening by welcoming new CanCham members Tele2, ISKU, Controlit Factory and IIZI Brokers and reviewed upcoming events, with the main ones being “Celebrating Canada” on Monday, June 5th as Canada prepares for it’s 150th birthday, “Celebrating Latvia” on Friday, June 16th,  a warm up to “Jâòi” with an afternoon field trip to the Brâlis Brewery for a plant tour and dinner at the Brâlis Pub and Restaurant, and Canada Day on Saturday, July 1st, celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday. Ed also announced that a business delegation is being planned to visit Canada in mid September, and that the CanCham has introduced a new membership level called “Senior Corporate”.

Ed then introduced Baiba Rubesa, Chairperson of the Management Board & CEO of Rail Baltica who presented the “Rail Baltica – project of the century”, the progress  of the project, the plans for this year and useful information to potential suppliers.

The Trans-European railway Rail Baltica, linking Helsinki – Tallinn – Riga – Kaunas – Warsaw and continuing on to Berlin, is to be developed within the territories of the co-operating EU Member States. Rail Baltica will support the wider EU goals of parity of access to services and infrastructure of EU Member States and development of sustainable modes of transportation, improved balance and interoperability between different means of transportation and the establishment of links with the rest of the EU rail network.

Economic integration of Baltic States and Poland with Western Europe leads to growing trade and traffic. Well furnished and sustainable transportation links therefore promote economic growth and integration. Rail Baltica is expected to have a major impact on the economic development of our region and could affect all of us.
We thank Baiba for an informative and interesting presentation.

Lauris Klavins, Head of Sales and International Business Development at IIZI Brokers provided those present with a company presentation of the services offer by IIZI.
