Making the economy work for us – with Latvia’s Economics Minister, Arvils Ađeradens
03.11.2016

Dear CanCham Members and Friends,

The CanCham invites you to participate in our Business Development Forum about making the Economy work for us – with Latvia’s Economics Minister,  Arvils Ađeradens.

Topics that will be discussed include:
  • CETA, the Canada/European Union free trade agreement that is currently going through the ratification process,
  • entrepreneurship and changes in legislation,
  • promotion of exports,
  • support for small and medium-sized businesses (SME’s).

CETA is particularly relevant to SME’s who do not have the financial means to force their way into foreign markets. CETA will remove most tariffs between the EU and Canada and significantly decrease the amount of paperwork. See http://ec.europa.eu/trade/policy/countries-and-regions/countries/canada/. The CanCham is encouraging and preparing its members to take advantage of these opportunities if they are interested in the following:
  • exporting products, services or innovations to Canada,
  • finding strategic partners for development projects or investments from Canada,
  • increasing export sales to Canada,
  • providing services to Canadian companies doing business in Latvia
  • representing Canadian companies in Latvia or the Baltic region,

Of course, this also prepares our members to deal with and benefit from other foreign countries doing business with Latvia.

The CanCham also recognizes that actions must be taken to deal with troublesome government laws, regulations and/or practices that hinder the effectivity of our entrepreneurs. We have recently launched our Governance program to do our part in identifying such instances and seeking corrective actions, and would like to hear what the Minister has to say about such issues so that we can better coordinate our actions for a better result.
